Day 1 - 3
Gently blot lips with a clean tissue/cotton round to absorb lymph fluid.
Clean lips with water and mild soap, then pat dry.
Apply healing ointment (Aquaphor) frequently throughout the day to keep lips moisturized. Do not let the lips become dry as it may interfere with the healed colour.
Complete your antiviral medication (if you took) to prevent an outbreak
What to expect
Lips may appear darker and swollen initially.
Lymph fluid discharge may occur.
Tenderness and sensitivity are normal.
Day 4 - 7
Continue applying healing balm as needed to prevent dryness.
Keep lips clean and avoid touching them with unclean hands.
Drink through a straw to avoid contact with lips.
Avoid makeup on lips.
What to expect
Lips may start to flake and peel.
The color will appear patchy or uneven during this time.
Scabbing will continue; avoid picking.
Day 8 - 15
Keep lips hydrated, applying balm as necessary.
Avoid exfoliating or picking at peeling skin.
Stay away from the sun or tanning beds
Wear SPF chapstick on lips
Book your touch up after 5 weeks to achieve the best results. Sometimes 2-3 sessions may be required.
What to expect
Peeling should mostly be complete by now.
The color will start to settle in, but it may look muted and 50% lighter than initially.
Final color will be visible, but remember it can take up to 6 weeks for full results.
Protect lips from sun exposure to maintain color.
What to avoid..
Drink through a straw until your lips have scabbed including coffee tea
Avoid eating anything oily, spicy, citrus
Do not kiss, lick, bite your lips
Avoid any oral activities
Avoid overstretching lips (large sandwiches)
Constantly dab and clean lips while eating
Avoid getting them too wet in the shower / washing face / brushing teeth as this can make them peel faster and have zero retention
Avoid facing shower head when showering
No smoking (especially lip neutralization) as this can darken lips
Lips may still be dry after a month or two as it depends on your body
Avoid picking/ripping/tugging the scabs
Avoid exfoliating your lips or you may lose pigment
